Marium Chapter #599
January 6, 2009

In April of this year, we joined together with Acaia #623 to cook and serve dinner for the families that were staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

It was a great opportunity for us to give back to an organization that has helped a few of our members in the past.

We previously hosted an annual event called Family Day. It provided the local community with a day of fun, games, music and entertainment. In collaboration with other local chapters and lodges, and the Rosemont Community Center, this was a great success.

We plan on doing something like this again in the near future, so keep an eye out!

Vibrant, intriguing, responsible, talented, unique, exhilarating youth. V.I.R.T.U.E is a community-based group, founded to target girls between the ages of 12-18. Our main purpose is to mentor teenage girls who face everyday problems along with a tutoring program to make sure that their education is a success. We will meet twice a month on Saturdays for outings or workshops. The girls will be exposed to community service events, such as our 2 nd Annual Family Day on February 11, 2006 to help promote community awareness. Also they will attend workshops to help them to develop skills needed for a good job, etiquette, finances, and everyday life skills. The girls will also be offered tutoring services every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. All events will be held at the Rosemont Community Center unless otherwise noted.

Miriam Chapter #599 of International Masons Inc. and Order of the Eastern Stars will be over this mentoring program. Our main responsibility is to serve the community, and we feel as though this would be a great start. In September of 2006 the chapter will only have existed for 3 years. The chapter does many community service events to help promote the welfare of our community. This is a young chapter aging from 21 – 30. We feel as though it is our responsibility to help those who need help and to guide them in the right direction. Miriam's Worthy Matron or President is a schoolteacher who feels as though today's youth need that extra push for their education. They also need someone who can talk to them on their level.

The girls who have their parent permission to participate in the program will enjoy activities such as arts and crafts, habitat for humanity, visiting the nursing home, going bowling, watching movies, participating in pageants, learning to cook, and just having fun with girls their age.

Special thanks to the Rosemont Community Center
